The Society implements its mission by awarding annual grants and prizes to artists and art critics. Its primary focus is on young, talented artists at the beginning of their career.

The Society organises solo shows and thematic exhibitions of Finnish art, accompanied by ancillary events and research-oriented art publications. Members of the Society are entitled to free admission to the Society’s exhibitions.

One of the Society’s key areas of activity is purchasing artworks for its annual art lottery, in which about a hundred works of contemporary Finnish art, primarily by young artists, are raffled among the Society’s members. The Society also organises open croquis sessions on Tuesday nights at the Kunsthalle Helsinki.

In 2016, the Finnish Art Society had 1,614 members. Membership is open to all art lovers upon payment of the annual membership fee (30 euro in 2017).
